Visible Learning: Implementing Practices That Work Best to Accelerate Student Learning Grades, 6-12
October 25, 2018 @ 8:30 am - 3:00 pm
with Morgan Dunton, MDOE
In 2009, researcher John Hattie released a professional book based on his groundbreaking meta study of influences that impact learning outcomes. In Visible Learning, Hattie compared effect sizes of many aspects of learning to determine what does work, what does not work, and just how great the impact. This meta study helps teachers identify where to concentrate efforts and where change is needed.
In Visible Learning for Literacy, John Hattie, Douglas Fisher and Nancy Frey focus on literacy in grades K-12. They explore how to implement the practices that work best to accelerate student learning.
Maine DOE will introduce Douglas Fisher and Nancy Frey’s work with visible learning practices and support the implementation in classroom practice. Participants in this professional learning series will better understand teaching strategies that move grade 6-12 students from surface learning, to deep learning and a transfer of levels of understanding.
