The Goals of this Professional Development Day Include:
To clarify how the development of literacy skills within the disciplines builds knowledge and content expertise.
To learn about the best practices for developing reading and writing in the disciplines/content areas.
To explore brain-based research and how it impacts teaching and learning.
To discover strategies that help students to focus on academic tasks.
To provide methods to maximize instruction, cover more content to build background knowledge and develop literacy skills.
To offer instructional ideas and approaches to successfully integrate literacy skill development and discipline/content knowledge.
